UPDATE: Convicted killer captured after escaping from Mission Institute

Former Kelowna resident Robert Raymond Dezwaan is serving a life sentence for killing a teenager

UPDATE:

Robert Raymond Dezwaan was captured Saturday morning, after escaping Friday afternoon from Mission Institute.

Correctional Service Canada said he was apprehended by Agassiz RCMP at 11:15 a.m.

An investigation is now underway into exactly how Dezwaan managed to escape.

Police were on the hunt for Dezwaan, a convicted killer who went missing from Mission Institution on Friday.

He is serving a life sentence for killing a 16-year old Merritt girl in 2001.

Prison officials discovered he was missing April 14 after a 3:45 p.m. count in the minimum security section of Mission Institution.

Dezwaan is 53-years-old and described as:

  • 186 lbs
  • fair complexion
  • green eyes
  • bald head
