UPDATE: Damaged pole left Maple Ridge downtown in the dark

Hydro estimated power would be back on by 7 p.m.

A truck hit a power pole and put 230 B.C. Hydro customers in downtown Maple Ridge in the dark for most of Tuesday.

The outage began at 9 a.m., and Hydro estimated it would be restored by 7 p.m. But it wasn’t until after 8 p.m.

The pole, near the corner of Edge Street and Dewdney Trunk Road, was damaged. Customers without power ranged from the location of the pole west to 222nd Street.

Another 111 customers in were without power southwest of Fern Crescent and east of 232 Street in Maple Ridge as of 3 p.m. It is also now restored.
