A distraught Kelowna man has been transported to hospital for treatment after threatening the public in the Mission neighbourhood Saturday.
An area of Lakeshore Drive was closed off in response to the distraught man, police said.
Just before 1 p.m., police responded to a report of a man in crisis making weapons-related threats.
Officers were able to locate the man in a residence in the 500-block of Radant Road in Kelowna. Police immediately closed down the area due to the potential threat to the public.
Kelowna RCMP, with the assistance of the Southeast District Critical Incident Program Emergency Response Team, contained the area and the man was apprehended a short time later without incident.
He was transported to hospital for treatment. Kelowna RCMP won’t release any further information about the investigation, they said.

The Kelowna RCMP responded to an ‘ongoing police incident’ in Kelowna’s Mission neighbourhood on Sunday.
At around 4:00 p.m. multiple cruisers were stationed on Lakeshore Road near Truswell Road and Cook Road, and a portion of it was blocked off.
“We were responding to a ongoing police incident. Due to safety concerns for the public, our officers shut down the area until the matter was dealt with,” Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP told the Capital News.
Cpl. Noseworthy added there is no longer a concern for public safety at this time.
“We aren’t releasing further information at this time, but will address the issue at a later date,” she said.
