UPDATE: Domestic incident leads to double stabbing in Chilliwack

Robert Charles Fleming in custody after alleged assault at townhouse sending two to hospital

Two victims were sent to hospital late Thursday night after a double stabbing at a townhouse complex downtown Chilliwack that appears to be a domestic disturbance.

A 40-year-old man from the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows area was arrested by the Hope RCMP near Jones Lake and remains in custody.

Robert Charles Fleming was scheduled to appear in Chilliwack provincial court via video Monday morning facing seven charges: criminal harassment, break and enter, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, and uttering threats to kill animal or bird.

Fleming is not well-known to police and has no other criminal files listed on Court Services Online.

Emergency crews responded to reports of the stabbing at a unit in the 45300-block of Hodgins Avenue at 11:50 p.m. on Jan. 10.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail confirmed two victims were located with non-life threatening stab wounds.

One victim was transported to Chilliwack General Hospital while the second one was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital.

Rail said Friday that General Investigation Support Team (GIST) investigators supported by Ridge Meadows RCMP located the suspect in the Jones Lake area where he was arrested by the Hope RCMP.

Police believe the stabbings were targeted.

Mounties did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged targeting but the provincial court file is a “K” file, which refers to domestic assaults.

“The timely arrest of the suspect was a direct result of RCMP Detachments working together during a multi-jurisdictional investigation,” Rail said.
