No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident on the Old Island Highway late Wednesday afternoon.
The accident happened in the Stories Beach area just south of Henry Road. Traffic was backed up both ways, as police, fire crews and an ambulance attended the scene. The accident took place at about 5:15 p.m.
A witness at the scene said a truck heading southbound was hit when a northbound car clipped it coming around a bend in the road.
“The car crossed the line and hit another car. It was intense,” said a woman driving behind the truck that was hit. Visibly shaken by the incident, the witness did not want to provide her name.
At the scene, the car was pulled over at the side of the highway but the truck was knocked into a ditch and was sitting almost perpendicular to the road. Police blocked off north- and south-bound traffic, though they let a small number of cars through to clear the the accident scene. A tow truck arrived shortly before 6 p.m. Traffic was backed up for at least an hour, according to some social media posts, while the vehicles were towed and the debris at the scene was cleaned.
The driver that crossed over the centre line has been fined under the Motor Vehicle Act, according to RCMP. Police also confirmed they were not aware of any serious injuries resulting from the accident.
