Emergency crews responded to a head on, two vehicle collision between a pick up truck and car near the bridge on Horse Lake Road in 100 Mile House around 5 p.m. on Aug. 13, which investigators say was caused by an impaired driver.
Two people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles were totalled as a result of the impact.
The male driver of the pick up truck, a 100 Mile House resident, was arrested for impaired driving. Police also found a small amount of hashish on him subsequent to his arrest. He was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Blood has been seized from the man for chemical analysis. In addition, the male was found to have an expired driver’s licence. Charges against the male are pending lab test results.
Investigators closed the road down for close to three hours.
The westbound truck, a 1984 Ford Ranger, was occupied by a 100 Mile House man and his dog and swerved as it approached the bridge and veered from the travelled portion of the road toward the bridge railing.
The passenger side tire of the truck jumped up onto the wooden pedestrian access path leading across the bridge. The truck then proceeded across the centre line of Horse Lake Road and ran head on into an eastbound Pontiac Sunfire, driven by a 100 Mile House woman.
The woman was able to get out of her vehicle with assistance. The car subsequently caught on fire. She received treatment from ambulance attendants at the scene.
She has since been released from hospital and is in stable condition.
The male driver of the pickup truck was removed from the vehicle by 100 Mile House Fire-Rescue attendants and transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released from hospital in stable condition.
The man’s dog was not injured and was voluntarily taken into temporary care by a sympathetic bystander on scene.
