There are unconfirmed reports that at least one person died in a head-on crash on Highway 1, west of Lickman Road in Chilliwack in the early hours of Tuesday (Dec. 29).
One of the vehicles was reportedly driving westbound in the eastbound lanes for several kilometres before the collision at approximately 4:30 a.m.
There were reports on social media that the wrong-way driver was seen in the wrong lanes as far east as Bridal Falls.
Fraser Valley Traffic Services assisted by the RCMP’s Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) were on the scene investigating, and the lanes were closed for several hours.
An assessment was underway after the collision near the 116 exit, according to the Drive BC notice that went out at about 6:15 a.m. Eastbound traffic was being diverted at Yale Road.
