UPDATE: Fatal collision closed Highway 1 east of Sicamous

Trans-Canada Highway east of Sicamous closed Friday due to fatal accident

A 55-year-old Calgary woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Sicamous.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision 10 kilometres east of Sicamous.

Police report the collision took place at slight bend in the road and involved an eastbound Mitsubishi Delica and a westbound Hyundai Accent.

The 55-year-old Calgary woman was the driver and lone occupant of the Hyundai. The two female occupants of the Mitsubishi were transported to Shuswap Lake General Hospital with injuries that police describe as “very minor.”

The highway remained closed for several hours as emergency responders tended to the collision.

Drive BC reports the highway remained closed until approximately 6:30 p.m. when it was reopened to single-lane alternating traffic. The highway didn’t fully reopen until 10 p.m.

RCMP Trans Canada East Traffic Services continue to investigate the cause of the collision and are assisting the B.C. Coroners service with their investigation.
