Update: Fire at Maple Ridge apartment building leaves one dead

Fire broke out at a Maple Ridge Apartment building on Sunday morning, and one person was airlifted to burn unit.

A man is dead after a fire at a Maple Ridge apartment building on Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called at approximately 10 a.m. to Urbano Apartments, at 12238 224th St.

Fire crews rescued the lone occupant, who, according to reports, was transported with serious injuries via air ambulance to the Vancouver General Hospital burn unit.

The fire was in a second-floor unit in the four-storey complex. The building’s sprinkler system and firefighters contained the fire to one unit.

Firefighters said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
