Update: Fire torches house in Kelowna

Update:

At 10:02 p.m. Friday, Kelowna Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a house on fire on Garner Road.

Upon arrival Kelowna Fire Department crews found a two-story residence fully engulfed in flames.

One male occupant was home when the fire started. He and his dog escaped the structure unharmed.

Three engines: One rescue, one command unit, a bush truck, along with 16 firefighters responded to the scene. Firefighting efforts kept the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings; however, the home is a total loss.

ESS assisted in sheltering the family of five.

It is believed that the fire started in the area of the barbecue, which was in use when the fire was discovered.***

A two-storey home in the Belgo area caught on fire late Friday night.

Kelowna firefighters arrived at the fire scene shortly after 10 p.m. at the house located in the Belgo area just off Highway 33, across from the Black Mountain subdivision.

One male person escaped from the flames along with the family pets while his wife and two kids were not home at the time the fire broke out.

Emergency response officials are on scene to help find alternate housing for the family.
