Foul play is suspected after a male’s body was discovered Friday afternoon on the ice under the Rudy Johnson Bridge near Soda Creek.
At 2:17 p.m. on Jan. 2, the Williams Lake RCMP received a report of a body on the ice.
“The body was located lying on the ice above the Fraser River,” Sgt. Randy Bosch, with the North District Major Crime Unit told the Tribune. “Search and Rescue removed the body for us. It was quite tricky because the ice was moving.”
The Williams Lake General Investigative Services and North District Major Crime Unit were called in to assist the Williams Lake detachment because of the suspicion of foul play.
North District MCU media relations Const. Dave Tyreman said the identity of the deceased is undetermined at this time and as the investigation is in its preliminary stages, this is all the information that will be released at this time.
The Rudy Johnson bridge, located about 40 kilometres north of Williams Lake, remains closed to all traffic, but Bosch said it should re-open by 8 p.m. Saturday evening.
“Road conditions were very icy at the time we were called in yesterday so we had to get the road service in,” Bosch added.
The North District MCU is asking if anyone has any information regarding this incident to please contact them at the Williams Lake RCMP Detachment at 250-392-6211.
