Initially, Island Health had listed the start date of March 31. Island Health has updated their list of vaccine clinics to reflect the new start date. The ending date is still listed as Oct. 31, 2021.

Island Health said that they determined clinic locations based on the following criteria:

• Ease of access – establish a travel time of approximately no more than 15 minutes;

• Accessible by individuals with mobility challenges, including but not limited to wheelchair and walker access;

• On or close to major transportation routes and bus routes;

• The availability of functional clinic space and space to support appropriate physical distancing.

“Our goal was to meet these principles and have as many clinics ready to open on March 15 (when the first eligible cohort begins receiving their immunizations) as possible,” Island Health media relations officer, Dominic Abassi said.

“However, some clinics will open at a later date. This is either because of a designed plan (IE to add more clinic capacity as the age cohorts become younger and thus more populous) or due to logistics such as space availability and time required to make any necessary changes to make the site appropriate to operate as a vaccination clinic.”
