UPDATE: Police say the 57-year-old man who had been missing has been located and is safe and sound.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED: The Nanaimo RCMP are asking the public to help locate a 57-year-old Nanaimo man.

Just before 8 p.m., Robert Gillies was reported to have not returned to his residence in the north Nanaimo area. He had left his supportive housing prior to a check in the early morning and was last seen at about 10:30 p.m. at a coffee shop in Departure Bay.

Gillies is 57 years old, 5-foot-10, 170 lbs., and has blonde hair. He was wearing a black jean jacket, and blue jeans.

Gillies has a noticeable limp with mobility issues and a medical condition that has left him with poor memory. He is new to Nanaimo and does not know the area. Supportive housing staff are concerned for his well-being and would like people to be aware and report to the Nanaimo RCMP if they locate him.

Anyone who sees Gillies is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-3245.
