A Maple Ridge man may be faced with multiple surgeries after being hit by a car on Tuesday.
The son of the 65-year-old man who lives in Washington State said his father’s leg was broken in multiple places and may need reconstructive surgeries.
He was to see specialists at Royal Columbian Hospital on Wednesday.
The Washington man, who wished to remain anonymous, said his father’s knee cap was shattered and additional bones were broken below the knee.
“So, it’s not a simple ‘put a cast on it,'” he said.
The single-vehicle accident occurred at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the corner of 203rd Street and Dewdney Trunk Road.
Paramedics were helping the pedestrian when Maple Ridge firefighters arrived, said Capt. Gary Porter, with the Maple Ridge Fire Department.
The driver was not injured, he added.
The son said his father was evaluated in an ambulance before being taken directly to Royal Columbian.

He also said his parents were planning to travel to Washington State to visit him on Thursday to celebrate the American Thanksgiving. Now he will be coming here to see how he can help out.
He was told his father most likely will be facing a six- to 12-month recovery time.
“It just shows that it really doesn’t take much when it’s a car and then the hard pavement,” said the son.
RCMP are investigating.
