A man reported missing from Oak Bay this morning (Feb. 13) is safe.

The man’s Jeep broke down near Jordan River and he spent the night then walked back to Sooke.

“These are extremely stressful situations for the loved ones of the missing person and we exhaust all efforts on cases like these,” said Ray Bernoties, Deputy Chief, Oak Bay Police Department. “We push everything else aside to give this our full attention. In this case, we also sent a member up to that area to board the RCMP helicopter and keep in constant communication with us.”

The man was known to take his Jeep to the Shawnigan Lake area and information suggested that he was in the Shawnigan Lake area. The Oak Bay Police worked with the Shawnigan Lake RCMP and with Sooke RCMP. Police even took to the air in the search.

“We’d like to thank RCMP Air Services as well as the Shawnigan Lake and Sooke RCMP members for their assistance,” Bernoties said. “We become very invested in these calls and I can tell you we’re absolutely thrilled and relieved when the outcome is positive such as in this case.”
