There were no injuries but a pet went missing during a house fire in the Stories Beach area Wednesday morning.
The Campbell River Fire department responded to the fire just after 11 a.m.
“When we arrived on scene we found a single family home that was completely engulfed in fire,” said deputy chief Kelly Bellefleur. “We had to attack from the exterior of the building as it wasn’t stable enough for us to go inside.”
There were 21 personnel on the scene. The teams fighting the fire were on oxygen, rotating out every half hour or so when they ran out of air.
“Typically we hope to be able to not have a crew member go on more than two bottles in a fire… but often is the case when you are short staffed that you end up going on more than two bottles,” Bellefleur said.
The storm that rolled through yesterday didn’t help.
“High winds in a fire situation don’t help put the fire out, they feed oxygen to the fire and make it burn faster and hotter,” Bellefleur said.
BCHydro and paramedics were also on scene. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
The missing pet, a cat, has reportedly been found.
