Two vehicles were involved in a crash on the inland Island Highway Thursday morning, Feb. 1, that resulted in “major front-end damage” to one vehicle but no injuries.

Police were called to the scene on the northbound lane of Highway 19 at Northwest Bay Logging Road at 7:53 a.m. said Cpl. Jesse Foreman with Oceanside RCMP.

“A 2002 red VW Golf driven by an 18-year-old Nanaimo man rear-ended a 2011 Lincoln MKC, white, driven by a 32-year-old female from Ladysmith,” he said.

Both cars were towed, with “major front-end damage to the VW Golf,” and “fairly significant but not extensive damage to the Lincoln,” said Foreman.

No injuries were reported on scene, he said.

The crash had vehicles backed up going north past Arbutus Meadows Event and Equestrian Centre where the highway had been reduced to one lane as fire and police crews responded.

The crash site was cleared by later in the morning.
