Surrey RCMP say one person is dead following an early morning crash on Highway 17.
A 37-year-old man has died after a two-vehicle crash betwen a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle on the highways between the 104 Avenue and 108 Avenue exits, according to a release from Const. Sarbjit Sangha.
Police were called to Highway 17, between 104 and 108 avenues, at 2:55 a.m. for reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck towing a fuel trailer, according to a release from Staff Sgt. Tyner Gillies early Thursday morning.
Gillies said when police and Surrey Fire Service arrived, they found a driver with “serious life-threatening injuries.”
Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was on scene for a full investigation.
Sangha said that while the cause of the collision has not yet been determined, initial indications are that the “passenger vehicle was pulled over on the side of the highway when it was struck by a westbound tractor-trailer.”
She added impairment is not believed to be a factor and the driver of the trailer remained at the scene and spoke to police. That driver was not physically injured.
Westbound traffic on Highway 17, between 104 Avenue and and 136 Street, remains closed following a serious two-vehicle collision early Thursday morning (Sept. 2).
DriveBC tweeted the latest traffic reminder around 12:45 p.m. Eastbound traffic remains open.
The next update on traffic is expected at 2 p.m., according to DriveBC.
