  • Jun. 21, 2021 12:00 a.m.

A Pat Bay Highway closure that significantly delayed traffic Monday morning was caused by a drug-impaired driver, Saanich police told Black Press Media.

Police were called to an area of the highway near Sayward Road at 5:17 a.m. for reports of a single-vehicle incident. Upon arriving, police discovered a drug-impaired man had crashed his vehicle into two hydro poles.

Saanich fire and paramedics joined police on the scene and they closed both southbound lanes and one northbound one for several hours.

Saanich police announced that all lanes had reopened shortly after 11 a.m.

Sgt. Damian Kowalewich said the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and he was issued a ticket for driving while impaired, including a 24-hour driving suspension.

No one was injured in the incident.
