The Upper Fraser Valley RCMP has closed East Harrison Forest Service Road until further notice as firefighters battle a 4-hectare wildfire.
“People currently in the area are able to depart southbound,” reads a brief statement from the RCMP. “Please avoid the area.”
The wildfire has been reported just over 13 kilometres down the forest service road north of Harrison Hot Springs.
B.C. Wildfire Service believes the fire is human caused. At about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday (June 24), emergency scanner traffic indicated a vehicle fire in the area; Agassiz firefighters responded , successfully extinguishing the vehicle. However, the fire had spread up the nearby hillside, and B.C. Wildfire Service ordered Agassiz firefighters to clear the scene while they battled the wildfire.

This wildfire is the fourth reported in Agassiz-Harrison so far this year with the last fire burning approximately 22 hectares of land near the Sts’ailes First Nation in mid May.
There are 12 active fires in B.C. as of Friday, June 25; the yearly total is up to 352 wildfires.
