The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is continuing to investigate two bomb threats that were made last week involving Clearbrook Library.
Sgt. Judy Bird said the APD received reports of the bomb threats on Thursday at about 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
She said police are not disclosing at this time who received the threats – whether they were made directly to the APD, to the library or someone else – or what exactly was said.
In both instances, police raced to the scene, evacuated the building – located on George Ferguson Way behind the civic plaza and adjacent to the APD building – and blocked off access to the library and surrounding areas.
Also in both cases, a police dog that specializes in tracking down explosives was brought in. No devices were found.
In the second instance, three RCMP officers were brought in to assist local police because the nature of the threat involved a bigger area that needed to be blocked off, Bird said.
Clearbrook Library was closed down for the rest of the day after each threat, but re-opened the next day.
Bird said a large police response is required in situations such as these because authorities have to treat the threats as legitimate.
“It is taxing on our resources,” she said.
