UPDATE: 100 Mile RCMP and South Cariboo Search and Rescue have confirmed the death of a man who went missing in the Valentine Lake area.
A man’s body was discovered at 12:45 p.m. and RCMP confirmed the deceased matched the description of the missing man they had been searching for. RCMP are now working with the Coroners Office to assist in their investigation.
“It cannot be overstated the tremendous asset that South Cariboo Search and Rescue is to the greater 100 Mile House area. 100 Mile House RCMP deeply appreciates your commitment and assistance during these types of investigations,” Staff Sergeant Svend Nielsen said in a release.
Nielsen also wished to acknowledge the assistance of members of the public who provided them with information about the activities of the deceased male. The 55-year-old Sardis resident had been camping in the area for several weeks and had befriended many in the Valentine Lake Campground.
Next of kin have been notified and the RCMP extends their condolences to the individual’s family and friends.
ORIGINAL STORY: 100 Mile RCMP are working with South Cariboo Search and Rescue today to search for a missing man in the Valentine Lake area west of 100 Mile.
RCMP are asking members of the public avoid the area in and around the access to Valentine Lake and the Forestry Campsite there due to the ongoing operation. Police will advise the public when the area is accessible again. There is no risk to the public at this time.
No further information will be released until the investigation has concluded.
