UPDATE: Nanaimo RCMP said an 81-year-old man who had been missing has been located safe and sound.
PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED: Nanaimo Mounties are asking for the public’s help to find an 81-year-old who has not been seen or heard from since leaving his central Nanaimo home on or about Nov. 27.
Rolf Erhard Oehme recently missed several planned home visits from the Nanaimo Seniors Outreach Team, including one scheduled for Nov. 27.
Because he missed visitations, which is out of character for him, and because he was recently released from an extended hospital stay, his support workers are extremely worried for his safety and well-being.
Investigators have learned that just prior to Nov. 27, Oehme tried to buy a plane ticket to a European country, but was prevented from doing so due to his various medical conditions. Investigators are also following up on the possibility Oehme might have used public transportation to leave Vancouver Island.
Oehme does not drive and has no immediate family living on the Island.
Oehme is caucasian, 5-foot-11, 150 pounds, has white hair and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, track pants with white stripes on the sides and white runners and may also be pulling behind him or carrying a small black travel bag. He is known to wear the same clothes for extended periods of time. He speaks with a strong German accent.
Anyone with information on Oehme’s whereabouts is asked to call the the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com or call 1-800-222-8477.
