UPDATE: Police release composite sketch of suspect in sex assault

The Abbotsford Police Department has released a composite sketch of the suspect in a sexual assault that took place on Thursday evening.

Const. Ian MacDonald said a 29-year-old woman was walking in the 2400 block of Gladwin Road – adjacent to Mill Lake Park – at about 8 p.m. Thursday when she was approached from behind by a man who propositioned her.

As she tried to walk away, the man sped up and continued making comments to her, while attempting to expose himself.

MacDonald said the victim tried to dial 911 but the man threw her to the ground. The woman then scrambled to her feet and ran to a nearby apartment building to call for police.

MacDonald said the victim sustained minor injuries but is understandably shaken from the attack.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, 5′ 6″to 5′ 8″, with medium-toned skin, a mustache and medium-length hair to his jawline.

He was wearing grey track pants and a black coat.

The Abbotsford Police Department‘s major crime unit is continuing to investigate and is appealing for witnesses who might have been in the area at the time of the attack to come forward.

MacDonald said police are also urging citizens to be diligent about their personal  safety.

“Whenever possible, people should walk in pairs or groups and take paths that are well lit and close to homes and businesses,” he said.

All suspicious people and activities, particularly around Mill Lake Park, should be reported to police, he added.

Anyone with information is asked to call the APD at 604-859-5225, text abbypd (222973) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
