Police are now saying that a sexual assault reported by a teenager in Duncan on Thursday afternoon did not happen.
The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP announced on Thursday that a 14-year-old girl had reported a sexual assault in the area of York and James streets near Cowichan Secondary School. They then announced on Friday morning that they had a suspect in custody. On Friday evening, they stated that the assault “has been proven not to have occurred” and that the suspect was released from custody without charge.
“This allegation was treated seriously and investigated thoroughly over the last 24 hours,” Sgt. Chris Swain stated. “It has been proven that this reported sexual assault did not take place.”
