UPDATE: Police seeking witnesses to fatal Surrey hit-and-run

A pedestrian was killed Thursday night in a crash on Highway 10 near 152nd Street

Surrey Mounties are looking for witnesses to a fatal hit-and-run traffic crash Thursday night long Highway 10 roughly 200 metres east of 152nd Street.

Police are looking for a white SUV with a “boxy” appearance.

“Investigators are also canvassing the area for video and asking any members of the public who may have captured the incident on dash cam to call the police,” Corporal Elenore Sturko said. That number is 604-599-0502.

A man in his 50s died after being hit by two westbound vehicles, police said. Staff Sergeant Murray Hedderson said police received several calls at about 8:15 p.m. about the pedestrian being hit.

Hedderson said the man, who is believed to be from Surrey, was crossing the eastbound lanes of Highway 10 from the south when a vehicle hit him. Police have not released the victim’s name. He was not using a crosswalk.

Hedderson said the driver of the first vehicle didn’t stay on scene.

A second vehicle, he said, also hit the man. The driver of the second vehicle stayed on scene and is co-operating with police, Hedderson said.

Pictures from a Black Press freelancer show RCMP, BC Ambulance Service and Surrey fire department on scene. Pictures and video from the scene show a body under a tarp on Highway 10.

The weather was dark and rainy at the time of the collision, according to the freelancer.

Hedderson said RCMP is looking for information or dash-cam video from anyone who witnessed the accident. People can contact the Surrey RCMP detachment at 604-599-0502.
