UPDATE: Quesnel’s West Park Mall cleared after bomb threat

RCMP Staff Sgt. Darren Dodge said a male is in custody related to the threat

Employees are back inside the stores at West Park Mall after police cleared the building with the help of the police dog service.

Quesnel RCMP Staff Sgt. Darren Dodge confirmed a bomb threat was made against one of the stores inside the mall, and a male was in custody.

Dodge explained out of an abundance of caution, the mall was evacuated, and Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department members prevented any cars from entering the parking lot. Staff were able to return just before 5:30 p.m.

The investigation into the threat is ongoing.

Update: 4:15 p.m.

RCMP continue to secure West Park Mall on the west side of Quesnel after a bomb threat Monday afternoon.

An RCMP member of the police dog service arrived at about 4 p.m. with their police dog to search the area.

The West Park Mall in Quesnel is being evacuated due to a bomb threat Monday afternoon (Aug. 23).

RCMP and members of the Quesnel Fire Department are on scene.

Access to the area is blocked and the public is being asked to avoid the area.

“There was an unknown threat at the mall, and due to an abundance of caution the mall has been evacuated,” said Quesnel RCMP detachment commander, Staff Sgt. Darren Dodge.
