An Abbotsford teacher who shared pictures of racist and misogynist graffiti she found on the Sumas Mountain campus of the Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts says she has been heartened by the community’s response.

The teacher who posted the photos over the weekends of graffiti, including swastikas, spray-painted on the schools mural, windows and doors. Pictures also appear to show graffiti on portable classrooms.

“I’m mad, I’m annoyed … but mostly I am sad, I think. Sad that hate like this is so easily displayed like it is nothing… sad that our amazing school, ASIA Sumas, was vandalized with this disgusting message… sad that a mural that our students worked very hard on was destroyed with hate,” the teacher wrote.

The graffiti included “I [heart] being white,” and “white power.”

Messages also refer to the objectification of women.

There are also messages referring to “Grad 2017.”

On Monday, the teacher wrote that the graffiti had been cleaned up by the time students arrived in the morning.

“We had lots of calls/messages from the community, former grads, etc., to offer to help clean up,” she said via email. “Amazing community we have!”

Abbotsford Police were on scene Monday morning to take photos for their investigation.
