UPDATE:
On March 4, 2013 at approximately 7:51 a.m. members of the Prince Rupert RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a deceased man being located on the shoreline of the Rotary Waterfront Park in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
Upon arrival at the scene police located the partially submerged body of a deceased man.
“It is with great sadness that we are having to inform the public of this incident, and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic event,” stated Cst. Matt Ericson, spokesman for the Prince Rupert RCMP.
“As this matter is under investigation it is far too early to speculate as to what transpired.”
Currently the deceased has been identified as a Prince Rupert area man, however his name has not been released pending a next of kin notification.

A dead body has been discovered at the Prince Rupert waterfront.
According to Cst. Matt Ericson of the Prince Rupert RCMP, the detachment received a call at 7:51 a.m. on March 4 alerting them to a deceased body near the old CN station at Rotary Waterfront Park. It is believed the person is male, but over an hour after the call came in the body was still in the water so no identification or investigation was possible.
Forensic specialists are on site, but Ericson said it is too early in the investigation to provide any additional details. An update is expected early this afternoon.
