Update: RCMP looking for renter of Oliver home destroyed by fire

It is believed at least one modular home was involved

Update: 11:27 a.m.

Oliver RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in tracking down the person who is renting a mobile home that was burned down in a structure fire on Monday evening.

“The RCMP are continuing to investigate and would like to speak with the current renter being Dale Watts, age 38. Dale Watts has been living in the Oliver area since September and has no phone or vehicle,” said Sgt. Bryce Gervais in a news release.

Gervais said nobody was inside the home when the fire department arrived on scene and it is believed the fire originated in the kitchen area of the home.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Watts are asked to contact the RCMP detachment (250-498-3422) to provide details.

Oliver firefighters were called to a home on Ryegrass Road around 8 p.m. on Monday night.

Rob Graham, media officer with the Oliver Fire Department, said the mobile home was fully involved when they arrived on the scene.

“The fire attack was mainly exterior until the flames could be knocked back and it was safe for firefighters to enter,” he said. “A search was made of the home looking for any occupants as there was no clear indication if anyone was home or away during the fire. No one was found.”

Two pumpers and a water tender responded to the fire as firefighters were working for three hours to knock it down. Graham said RCMP were on the scene and remained after the fire crews were all clear.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
