Crews aid flooded homeowners following heavy weekend rainfall

  • Jan. 21, 2018 12:00 a.m.

Two roads closed in Whiskey Creek Sunday morning, Jan. 21, following heavy weekend rainfall, were reopened by nightfall as the floodwaters receded.

Stretches of two roads were closed and crews from multiple agencies were called out to assist several homeowners whose properties took on water, the Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department reported Sunday morning.

Through its Facebook page, the department reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. Sunday that Brittain Boulevard was closed due to deep standing water, along with part of Poplar Road between Brittain and Harris Crescent.

The fire department also reported “partial flooding” in the eastbound lanes of Highway 4 at Carson Road, just east of the Co-op gas bar.

In addition, crews worked to remove water from an unknown number of homes in the area.
