Speed is believed to be a major factor in a serious collision that took place on Highway 1 in Abbotsford on Monday night, according to RCMP Traffic Services.
Cpl. Robert McDonald said the 38-year-old driver was travelling east in a 2003 GMC Envoy just after 8:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the centre median near the Fraser Highway/Mt. Lehman Road exit. The vehicle then rolled several times.
Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service personnel worked to extricate a man through the front windshield of the car.
An air ambulance was called to the scene to airlift the seriously injured patient to a Vancouver-area hospital.
McDonald said two other passengers and the driver were severely injured. They were all taken to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours as the Integrated Collision Reconstruction Service and Fraser Valley Traffic Services investigated.
Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Fraser Valley Traffic Services at 604-702-4039.
