Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a dramatic crash that saw a pickup truck leave the road, shear off a power pole and end up wrapped around a tree. The crash took place on 16 Avenue on Saturday night.
Police are investigating a crash that sent a Langley man to hospital in critical condition and cut power to about 500 Langley homes.
Just before 10 p.m. a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck travelling at a high rate of speed westbound left the road in the 25500 block of 16 Avenue, hitting a power pole and striking a driveway’s culvert.
It then continued across the driveway and struck a large spruce tree. The tree was uprooted and the vehicle came to rest wrapped partially around the tree, said police.
The driver, a 24-year-old Langley man, was trapped and unconscious.
Fire crews got him out and paramedics worked on him at the scene for several minutes before he was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital.
Police would like to speak with anyone who may have observed the driving patterns displayed prior to the collision.
A number of witnesses remained at the scene to provide information to police however, if anyone witnessed the collision and has not spoken to police, they are asked to call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
The impact of the crash knocked out power to about 500 homes until 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
Victim Services were called out to work with the witnesses and the driver’s family.
A 27-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on 16 Avenue on Sept. 5. In that situation, speed and alcohol were also factors when the man rolled his vehicle in the 20800 block. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
