SURREY — Surrey Mounties are investigating after a teenaged boy was slashed above his ear with a knife during a fight between two groups of people in Cloverdale early Sunday morning.

It happened at about 1:30 a.m., near 180th Street and 64th Avenue. Police are looking for suspects.

Meanwhile, police say a television was targeted in Surrey’s 44th confirmed shooting this year. Surrey RCMP were called to the scene of what was at first thought to be a drive-by shooting in Whalley to find that someone with a gun had apparently used a television that had been abandoned at the side of the road near 144th Street and 92nd Avenue for target practice.

No injuries were reported, Corporal Scotty Schumann said. Bullet casings were found. “Witness details were pretty sketchy,” he added.

Schumann said investigators don’t suspect the TV was hit by a stray bullet intended for somebody or something else.

“The TV was targeted,” he said.

This happened at about 7:30 a.m.

Schumann said the police are still looking for the shooter. “Obviously it’s illegal,” he said, noting that bullets could have ricocheted.

This is Surrey’s 44th confirmed shooting this year although, according to the Surrey RCMP,  there have been others where police have not notified the public.
