A 14-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a car on Friday night in Abbotsford has died from his injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO), which is investigating the incident because the driver was an off-duty Abbotsford Police officer, confirmed today (Saturday) that the youth passed away just before midnight.

Friends and family have identified the boy as Marcus Larabie.

The collision took place at about 6:15 p.m. in the intersection of Bourquin Crescent West and Mill Lake Road, near the Bourquin bus exchange.

The boy was airlifted to hospital, and the driver of the 2009 Mazda 3 remained on the scene.

The intersection was closed to traffic as police collision reconstructionists investigated.

The IIO said investigators were deployed to multiple locations and spent the night identifying and interviewing potential witnesses, canvassing for video surveilance and seizing physical evidence from the scene.

Kellie Kilpatrick of the IIO said the preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was not a factor in the collision and that the driver was heading south on a green light.

She said investigators are still working to determine where in the intersection the teen was at the time of the crash and to confirm reports that he was riding a skateboard or longboard.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time is asked to contact the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.

Kilpatrick said information related to the officer or the deceased teen will not be released or provided by the IIO.

Meanwhile, a roadside memorial is continuing to grow at the site of the collision.
