Two girls were injured when the ATV they were riding on crashed Wednesday afternoon at an Abbotsford berry farm.

The girls were riding on a property in the 5300 block of Beharrell Road, on Matsqui Prairie when they were thrown from the ATV this afternoon. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 3:45 p.m.

The ATV didn’t land on the girls, who were reportedly in their mid-teens, and neither sustained life-threatening injuries, according to Const. Ian MacDonald of the Abbotsford Police. One girl was transported by ambulance to a waiting air ambulance, and then flown on to a regional hospital for care. The other girl sustained less serious injuries and was taken to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

There were 132 accidental ATV deaths in B.C. between 2006 and 2015, the most recent period for which such information is available.
