UPDATE: Boston Pizza Terrace reopened at 4 p.m. on Dec. 8, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The restaurant was sanitized and public health authorities were consulted prior to the reopening, according to the post. Original story below.
Boston Pizza in Terrace has opted to close temporarily after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
The employee last worked on Nov. 28 and received a positive test on Dec. 4, according to a statement posted on the Boston Pizza Terrace Facebook page Dec. 7. The employee began self-isolating immediately after showing symptoms.
The restaurant’s managers opted to close the restaurant to do a deep clean, and they will reopen the restaurant as soon as it is safe.
“Our primary concern is the safety of BP guests and staff. We therefore immediately closed the restaurant for a complete and thorough cleaning, and contacted public health authorities and are following their direction,” the statement reads. “We are working closely with municipal and provincial health authorities and will re-open for business once they have given us approval to do so.”
Eryn Collins, spokesperson for Northern Health, said the health authority cannot confirm or comment on specific instances of COVID-19 but she said public health officials will directly contact anyone the health authority deems to be at risk of having contracted the virus.
So, if you have attended Boston Pizza in recent weeks, you don’t need to take any action beyond standard COVID-19 safety protocols, according to Northern Health.
“Individuals who have not had close interactions with, or who have been simply present in the same location as, a confirmed case do not need to take additional precautions beyond the public health advice and guidance for all British Columbians,” Collins said. “The majority of Northern Health business settings have COVID Safety Plans in place to prevent exposure to and transmission of COVID-19.”
