The mystery of a dog that went missing on Saturday was solved with a tragic end.

The owner found Kianna, a 12-year-old black American cocker spaniel, dead in the Colquitz River on Thursday. The dog was a little ways from where she was last seen off leash on Saturday when she ran off from her owner during a walk in Cuthbert Holmes Park.

The discovery by owner Kaj Fulton, who was kayaking in the river Thursday, ends a five-day search for the dog that started Saturday.

Suffering health issues and aging, Kianna moved so slowly Fulton was stunned that Kianna wasn’t there when he turned around to let her catch up during the walk on Saturday. He instantly began searching but couldn’t find her.

“We are so thankful to everyone who helped us in our time of need,” said Kelsey Fulton. “We are overwhelmed with sadness but will continue to cherish every moment we had with our beautiful Keeks.

“I can’t believe the amount of people who’ve gone looking for her in Cuthbert, it’s been heartwarming to see how many friends and family [went] through the park.”
