Two collisions on Highway 1 in Abbotsford on Saturday have resulted in fatalities.
The first took place just after noon, when a truck rolled over just east of the Sumas exit in the eastbound lanes. Cpl. Robert McDonald of RCMP Traffic Services said a commercial cube-style truck was travelling in the slow lane and then moved into the fast lane to allow oncoming traffic to merge.
The driver then noticed that a 1997 GMC Yukon, driven by a 44-year-old Maple Ridge woman, was swerving and then flipped onto its roof. The driver of the commercial truck pulled over to the side of the road and called 911, McDonald said.
The driver of the Yukon was airlifted to hospital, where she died from her injuries the following day. Her two passengers were taken to hospital and released.
McDonald said the crash is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact Const. Blair Paterson at the Fraser Valley Traffic Services office at 604-702-4039.
The second fatality occurred just before 6 p.m. on Highway 1, when a motorcyclist went off the road near Clearbrook Road.
The 55-year-old rider was travelling west on a 2014 Harley-Davidson when he apparently experienced a medical emergency. He went through the median and down a grassy ditch, where he hit a post. The rider succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
This crash is also still under investigation, and anyone who might have information is asked to call 604-702-4039.
RCMP have not released any names in the two crashes.
