UPDATE: Two people rescued after car hits tree and spins into ditch in rural Chilliwack

Vehicle narrowly avoided landing in Camp River Slough after morning crash

Two people were trapped in their vehicle after it hit a tree in Chilliwack Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at about 8:45 a.m. on Camp River Road, just east of Jesperson Road on Jan. 27.

Paramedics called for two air ambulances to attend the scene and first responders were busy setting up a landing zone in the area. The vehicle, an SUV, was travelling eastbound on Camp River Road when it hit a tree on the south side of the road. It spun and went into a ditch, landing backwards just feet from the Camp River Slough.

Fire crews used the Jaws of Life, and both occupants of the vehicle were removed by 9:20 a.m.

Camp River Road was blocked in both directions between Jesperson Road and just east of the crash scene.

Update: The air ambulances were called off due to the weather.
