A 47-year-old Lake Cowichan man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with multiple violation tickets after his pickup truck crashed head-on into a utility pole in Chemainus.
The crash occurred shortly about 4:45 p.m. on Monday, May 8 at the intersection of Hemlock Street and Chemainus Road.
The force was so strong that the white truck almost sheered the pole off at the bottom, leaving it resting on the crumpled hood of the truck.
Chemainus Fire Department, police and Telus were called to the scene. “The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP want to thank the community, BCAS, Telus, and other partner agencies who helped ensure the safety of the driver and the community while on scene,” said North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Cpl. Amron Russell.
Motorists are reminded to stay alert with the onset of nicer weather conditions on the horizon.
