UPDATE w/ PHOTOS: Chilliwack fire crews tackle vacant house fire on Rowat Avenue Friday

Empty house was boarded up and behind fencing on lots slated for redevelopment

A single-storey house caught fire on Friday on Rowat Avenue in Chilliwack, shortly before noon.

The house is vacant, boarded up and behind red fencing on lots slated for redevelopment.

Crews quickly knocked down the flames on the exterior rear deck of the home before moving inside. They had to remove boards from the windows and doors to gain access.

The house is not near any other buildings and is at the end of the Rowat next to train tracks.

This fire was deliberately set and is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP fire investigators.
