The Kelowna Fire Department says three kayakers were saved from Mission Creek earlier today.
At 1:20 p.m. this afternoon Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) says it received a call from RCMP about three overturned kayaks in Mission Creek close to Ziprick road.
The Kelowna Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team was activated to assist RCMP with a search of the creek.
Units were dispatched to downstream locations and a search of the creek was started with the assistance of the RCMP helicopter.
During the search, the Kelowna Fire Department was notified the three people were able to exit the creek on their own. Two of the kayaks were retrieved but one still remains in the creek close to Creekside and Graham road, because it was too dangerous for the crews to remove it.
“Reminder to all that Mission Creek is very dangerous this time of year for any type of watercraft and we ask all to please stay off the creek,” said the Kelowna Fire Department.

Emergency crews responded to Mission Creek after two overturned kayaks and a life vest were spotted floating down the waterway on Thursday afternoon (April 22).
Despite the large response, one of the kayakers who had come to pick up his boat said no one was missing or injured. The man was kayaking down the creek with three friends when one of the kayaks flipped.

Crews are still searching for a second kayak that also floated down the creek.
