Wildfire BC reports that the wildfire between Salmon Arm and Canoe east of Highway 1 is under control, with no threat of spreading.
Gagan Lidhran, fire information officer with the Kamloops Fire Centre, said the fire has been sufficiently suppressed. She said there are four crew members on site and no structures were threatened. She said it is a cooperative undertaking between the local fire department and Wildfire BC.
Salmon Arm Fire Chief Brad Shirley said the fire department was called out early Monday morning and the BC Wildfire crews were taking care of the fire. He said it was east of the Cal-Van Motel.
“It’s very close to Canoe Creek so they have a nice little water supply there,” he said.
BC Wildfire has classified the fire as person-caused and it is under investigation.
Shirley said it’s fortunate it was contained to a small area, as firefighters were initially concerned that it would spread with the high winds forecast. Fortunately those winds did not materialize in that area.

A wildfire is burning just east of the Trans-Canada Highway between Salmon Arm and Canoe.
The BC Wildfire Service reports the fire, new Monday, Sept. 7, is 0.30 hectares (0.7 of an acre) and was person-caused.
It’s approximate location is described as Canoe Creek.
