Emergency crews spent Monday afternoon clearing a crash at the intersection of Saanich Road and Blanshard Street.

Witnesses said the driver of a silver BMW sedan headed eastbound on Saanich Road crashed into a white minivan headed south on Blanshard on Sept. 28 around 2:30 p.m.

The man driving the minivan was sent to hospital with minor injuries, said Const. Graham Walker of the Saanich Police Department.

“Traffic was going as normal when the BMW unexpectedly came out,” Walker said. “The witnesses were driving with the white van and had a green light. The BMW [is believed] to have run a red. Unfortunately for the BMW driver we’ll be looking at motor vehicle act charges.”

Traffic was impacted as police blocked several eastbound lanes on Saanich Road as well as southbound lanes on Blanshard Street while firefighters cleared the scene and paramedics assisted those involved.
