(Editor’s note: Updated with amount of personnel and level of containment)
Three helicopters and 32 fire suppression personnel will be working a forest fire on the west face of Mount Thompson today.
An early morning lightning strike started the fire east of Creston on Aug. 8, and had grown to 56 hectares (138 acres). The active fire is 100 per cent contained.
The fire was burning on steep, difficult terrain, and although it was very visible, “no communities or structures are threatened,” said Karlie Shaughnessy, fire information officer with the Southeast Fire Centre, in an email.
