Heavy rain has triggered conditions that have affected highways around Kaslo, B.C. Highway 31A between Kaslo and New Denver has been closed due to flooding and washouts.
A debris slide at the Lardeau Bluffs, approximately 27 km north of Kaslo has reduced Highway 31 to single lane traffic with up to a half hour wait.
Also, approximately 13 km north of Kaslo, Schroder Creek overwhelmed its banks and has flooded the highway. A mud slide has reduced the highway to single lane traffic.
The Trans Canada Highway east of Golden is also closed due to multiple washout and debris flow sites in Alberta. Travelers should consider using Highway 5 and Highway 16 as alternate routes at this time.
