A man has been gunned down and killed directly across the street from Langley’s last murder in December.

Tarek Ali al-Romeshi, a 23-year-old Surrey man, was the victim of the latest murder to hit the Lower Mainland, said Cpl. Frank Jang of IHIT.

Police believe this latest was a targeted shooting. Al-Romeshi was not known to police and did not live in the complex where he was killed.

Just after 9 p.m. Friday evening, Langley RCMP received calls of shots fired in the 8200-block of 204B Street, in the Everly Green townhouse complex in Willoughby.

“When officers arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle,” said Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Firefighters and paramedics performed CPR on the victim as they were loaded him into the ambulance for transport to hospital.

“The male victim was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” Jang elaborated, explaining that the IHIT team was called in and has taken over the investigation, working with the Langley RCMP, the integrated forensic identification team, and the coroner to gather evidence.

“This shooting appears to be a targeted incident,” Jang said.

“There are people who knew Mr. Al-Romeshi that may have information that could help us solve his murder. I urge these individuals to come forward and speak with IHIT,” he added.

People are urged to call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200, or the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 if they had any information.

At the same time, firefighters received calls for a vehicle fire at 206A Street and 84B Avenue nearby.

They located a 2009 white Nissan 370Z in flames.

IHIT “would like to speak with anyone that has information about it,” Jang said.

This follows the usual trend of suspect vehicles being burned in nearby unpopulated areas after the crime in order to switch to a different getaway vehicle.

Langley’s last murder, and its last of 2017, took place in the 8100 block of 204th Street, in the backyard of a townhouse on the south side of 82nd Avenue.

Dai Duong Duong of Abbotsford, 21, was shot to death on Dec. 7. He was known to be involved in gang activity.
