UPDATED: Langley house fire deemed suspicious (with video)

The fire closed 16 Avenue near 200 Street for several hours on Sunday.

A fire that caused extensive damage to a two-storey house on 16 Avenue near 200 Street on Sunday morning is being treated as suspicious by police and fire investigators.

The blaze caused extensive damage to the roof and upper living room of the house, which was not occupied at the time.

“It appeared that it may have started from the outside” Langley Township deputy fire chief Bruce Ferguson said.

Langley RCMP confirmed that the fire is being looked at as an arson and the investigation is ongoing.

The fire was reported shortly before 8 a.m.

Multiple fire and police units were called in and an ambulance was standing by.

Traffic was closed on 16 Avenue for about two-and-a-half hours because the fire department had to run hoses across the busy truck route.

There were no reports of serious injuries.

The 3,128 square-foot house on a large acreage was listed for sale this summer with an estimated value of $1.4 million.

A video walk-through posted online by one realtor showed the four-bedroom, three-bathroom house built in 1973 had recently undergone substantial renovations.
