One woman was transported to hospital after a three-vehicle accident in Mission on Tuesday afternoon.
Mission RCMP, Mission Fire Rescue Service and BC Ambulance were all called out to the Petro-Canada gas station on Lougheed Highway, across from the Walmart, where the incident occurred.
According to RCMP Const. James Mason, the collision occurred at about 3:30 p.m. He said a vehicle veered off the Lougheed Highway into the entrance of the Petro-Canada, collided with a parked vehicle and dislodged the gas pump from its base.
The pump then fell onto another vehicle which was parked while fueling up.
“Only minor injuries were reported and the driver was the only one taken to hospital and that was just for medical screening in regards to what would have potentially caused her to veer of the road,” said Mason, adding that nothing has been confirmed as far as a medical condition for the driver.
He said the incident appeared to passersby to be a “significantly big event,” but in reality was not a major incident.
“The upside is that all these gas stations have the proper safetys in place and as soon as that pump was dislodged, the auto shutoff engaged and little to no fuel was lost,” said Mason.
